# Ernie the Giant Chicken

Human-sized anthropomorphic chicken and Peter Griffin's recurring fight opponent.

## Core facts

- **Role:** Peter's recurring fight opponent
- **Voiced by:** Danny Smith, credited in every listed episode
- **First appearance:** Da Boom (S02E03, 26 December 1999)
- **Credited appearances:** 7 episodes across 6 seasons. This is a floor, because the source records at most ten voice credits per episode.

## Relationships

- **Rival:** [Peter Griffin](peter-griffin.md). Their feud leads to violent fights that often burst into unrelated scenes. A flashback in Da Boom traces it to an expired coupon Ernie once gave Peter.
- **Killed by:** [Meg Griffin](meg-griffin.md), who beheads him in The Chicken or the Meg (S23E05)

## Later history

Showrunner Alec Sulkin said Ernie had been killed off for good in S23E05. He came back in Season 24 anyway, in a segment of Viewer DMs (S24E06) and in A Few More Ways to Die in the West (S24E10). Neither is set in the show's normal continuity.

## Common errors to avoid

- **The credited count leaves out his debut.** His first appearance, Da Boom (S02E03), is not among the seven credited episodes. The list starts at S16E04.
- **His Season 24 returns do not undo his death.** Both sit outside regular continuity.

## Key episodes

- S02E03 Da Boom: first appearance and the origin of the feud
- S23E05 The Chicken or the Meg: Meg kills him
- S24E10 A Few More Ways to Die in the West: return outside continuity
- S24E15 High School History
