Thelma Griffin's husband and the man who raised Peter, an 82-year-old Irish American Catholic.

## Core facts

- **First appearance:** Holy Crap (S02E02, 30 September 1999)
- **Credited appearances:** 5 episodes, in seasons 2, 3, 4, 5 and 8. This is a floor, because the source records at most ten voice credits per episode.

## Relationships

- **Spouse:** [Thelma Griffin](thelma-griffin.md)
- **Son (not biological):** [Peter Griffin](peter-griffin.md). The source page calls Francis both Peter's adoptive father and his stepfather.
- **Daughter-in-law:** [Lois Griffin](lois-griffin.md), whom he dislikes for not being Catholic
- **Step-grandchildren:** [Meg](meg-griffin.md), [Chris](chris-griffin.md) and [Stewie](stewie-griffin.md)

## Character

He is grouchy, stubborn and abusive, and tries to impose his religious views on the family.

## Common errors to avoid

- **He is not Peter's biological father.** After Francis's death, Peter recalls under hypnotherapy that Francis once told him so.
- **His death stands.** His later appearance in Family Goy (S08E02) is as a vision.
- **He did not appear in the pilot.** His first appearance is Holy Crap in season two.
