# Glenn Quagmire

The Griffins' neighbour on Spooner Street, a bachelor and commercial airline pilot.

## Core facts

- **Voiced by:** Seth MacFarlane
- **First appearance:** Death Has a Shadow (S01E01, 31 January 1999)
- **Created by:** Seth MacFarlane. A college acquaintance of MacFarlane's suggested the name, and the voice was modelled on fast-talking 1950s radio hosts. MacFarlane has described him as a 1950s Rat Pack-style party animal.
- **Credited appearances:** 15 episodes across 12 seasons. This is a floor, because the source records at most ten voice credits per episode.

## Relationships

- **Parent:** [Ida Davis](ida-davis.md), introduced as his father, Dan, in Quagmire's Dad (S08E18), who transitions and takes the name Ida
- **Sister:** [Brenda Quagmire](brenda-quagmire.md)
- **Closest friends and neighbours:** [Peter Griffin](peter-griffin.md), [Cleveland Brown](cleveland-brown.md), [Joe Swanson](joe-swanson.md)
- **Rival:** [Brian Griffin](brian-griffin.md); the dislike runs both ways and the feud spans several episodes
- **Former wives:** Joan, who had worked as a maid for the Griffins and later died; Charmise, whom he later divorced

## Life and career

- Works as a commercial airline pilot.
- Was once stationed at Busan in South Korea, where he acted in a soap opera.
- Killed his sister Brenda's violent partner, Jeff, to protect her.
- The writing gives him a wide range of sexual fetishes. Fox has cut some of his material, and the Parents Television Council has criticised his scenes.

## Common errors to avoid

- **He is not married.** He has had two wives but is a bachelor.
- **Both he and Ida are veterans.** He served in Korea, stationed at Busan; Ida is a naval veteran of the Vietnam War. Glenn's branch of service is not recorded.
