# Meg Griffin

Eldest child of the Griffin family, a high school student often treated as the family outcast.

## Core facts

- **Lives in:** Quahog, Rhode Island
- **Voiced by:** Lacey Chabert, uncredited, in season one (some of her recordings aired in season two because of production order); Mila Kunis since Da Boom (S02E03, 26 December 1999)
- **First appearance:** Death Has a Shadow (S01E01, 31 January 1999)
- **Created by:** Seth MacFarlane
- **Credited appearances:** 445 episodes across 24 seasons. This is a floor, because the source records at most ten voice credits per episode.

## Relationships

- **Parents:** [Peter Griffin](peter-griffin.md), who mistreats her most but occasionally shows he cares, and [Lois Griffin](lois-griffin.md), who seldom steps in
- **Siblings:** [Chris](chris-griffin.md), her closest bond in the family, and [Stewie](stewie-griffin.md)
- **Family dog:** [Brian Griffin](brian-griffin.md), kinder to her than the others early on, but from around season ten he starts to enjoy mistreating her
- **Neighbour:** [Glenn Quagmire](glenn-quagmire.md), whom Peter stops from pursuing her in Meg and Quagmire (S10E10)

## Character

Insecure in early seasons, she becomes more sarcastic and unpredictable later, and her outcast status softens in later seasons. Talents her family rarely notices include bird calls, the saxophone, foreign languages and several sports.

## Other voices for Meg

- Tara Strong provides her singing voice in Don't Make Me Over (S04E04)
- Lacey Chabert returns in Yug Ylimaf (S11E04); archive recordings of Chabert are used in Back to the Pilot (S10E05)
- Kei Ogawa in a Japanese-set scene of Road to the Multiverse (S08E01)

## Common errors to avoid

- **The voice actor changed.** Lacey Chabert voiced Meg in season one and left because of school and her role in *Party of Five*. Mila Kunis has voiced her since Da Boom (S02E03).
- **Chabert's later work is limited.** Her return in Yug Ylimaf was a one-off, not a recasting.
- **She appeared from the pilot.** Her first appearance is Death Has a Shadow (S01E01).

## Key episodes

- S02E03 Da Boom: Mila Kunis's voice is first heard
- S10E02 Seahorse Seashell Party: she confronts her parents and Chris
- S10E10 Meg and Quagmire: Peter protects her from Quagmire
- S14E16 The Heartbreak Dog: she teams up with Chris
- S17E06 Stand by Meg: she saves Stewie from choking
