# Thelma Griffin

Peter Griffin's mother, an 85-year-old Irish American Catholic.

## Core facts

- **Voiced by:** Florence Stanley in her first appearance, Holy Crap (S02E02); Phyllis Diller in later appearances from Mother Tucker (S05E02); Alex Borstein as a younger Thelma in Don't Be a Dickens at Christmas (S16E09)
- **First appearance:** Holy Crap (S02E02, 30 September 1999)
- **Credited appearances:** 5 episodes across 4 seasons. This is a floor, because the source records at most ten voice credits per episode.
- **Death:** the episode Mom's the Word (S12E12) establishes that she has died of a stroke

## Relationships

- **Spouse:** [Francis Griffin](francis-griffin.md)
- **Son:** [Peter Griffin](peter-griffin.md)
- **Daughter-in-law:** [Lois Griffin](lois-griffin.md)
- **Grandchildren:** [Meg](meg-griffin.md), [Chris](chris-griffin.md) and [Stewie](stewie-griffin.md)

## Common errors to avoid

- **The voice actor changed.** Florence Stanley voiced her only in Holy Crap; Phyllis Diller voiced her after that.
- **Alex Borstein's credit is a younger version.** Borstein voiced Thelma as a young woman in a single episode, Don't Be a Dickens at Christmas (S16E09), not the elderly Thelma.
- **She did not debut in the pilot.** Her first appearance is Holy Crap in season two.

## Key episodes

- S02E02 Holy Crap: her first appearance
- S05E02 Mother Tucker: first credit for Phyllis Diller
- S05E10 Peter's Two Dads
- S06E06 Padre de Familia
- S16E09 Don't Be a Dickens at Christmas: voiced as a younger woman by Alex Borstein
