# Vinny Griffin

The dog who joined the Griffin family during Brian's absence in season 12.

## Core facts

- **Voiced by:** Tony Sirico, credited in all four listed episodes
- **First appearance:** Life of Brian (S12E06, 24 November 2013)
- **Credited appearances:** 4 episodes across 2 seasons. This is a floor, because the source records at most ten voice credits per episode.

## Relationships

- **The Griffins:** took him in about a month after [Brian Griffin](brian-griffin.md) died in Life of Brian
- **[Stewie Griffin](stewie-griffin.md):** Vinny helps him in Christmas Guy by distracting a visiting past version of Stewie, so Stewie can take the time machine's return pad and go back to save Brian
- **Family:** [Peter](peter-griffin.md), [Lois](lois-griffin.md), [Meg](meg-griffin.md) and [Chris](chris-griffin.md) Griffin during his stay

## Role in the show

Vinny filled the gap left by Brian's death across three season 12 episodes. Christmas Guy ends with Brian restored and the family back to normal. He is credited once more, in season 15.

## Common errors to avoid

- **He is not Brian.** Vinny is a separate dog brought in after Brian's death.
- **He was not a lasting replacement.** Brian returns in Christmas Guy (S12E08), two episodes after Vinny's debut.
- **He did not debut in season 15.** His first appearance is Life of Brian (S12E06).

## Key episodes

- S12E06 Life of Brian: his first appearance
- S12E07 Into Harmony's Way
- S12E08 Christmas Guy: helps Stewie save Brian
- S15E01 The Boys in the Band: his only later credit
