- Cancellation and revival
- Fox cancelled the show after season 3 in 2002 and revived it in 2005 following strong DVD sales and Adult Swim repeats. Season 4 began on 1 May 2005 with North by North Quahog.
- Cutaway gag
- A short scene that interrupts the main story to show an event a character has just mentioned or compared something to, then cuts back to where it left off. The show is widely known for its cutaway gags.
- Episode code
- This site's SxxEyy codes give the season and the episode's position within it, as listed on Wikipedia and IMDb. Hulu specials without a broadcast number carry SxxSPnn codes assigned by this site.
- Fuzzy Door Productions
- Seth MacFarlane's production company, one of the show's production companies alongside 20th Television and 20th Television Animation. This site names it in its disclaimer and has no connection with it.
- Hulu specials
- Seasonal episodes released on Hulu rather than broadcast on Fox, starting with Peter, Peter, Pumpkin Cheater on 14 October 2024. Wikipedia lists them within the season tables without an episode number.
- Production code
- The code assigned in production, such as 2ACX12 for Road to Rhode Island. The number after the letters is the production order within a production season, which does not always match broadcast order; the digit before ACX is the production season. Shown on episode pages where Wikidata records it.
- Production season
- Episodes are made in production seasons that overlap the broadcast seasons Fox schedules, which is why a production code's season digit can differ from the broadcast season on the same episode.
- Road to episodes
- A run of episodes pairing Brian and Stewie on a journey, beginning with Road to Rhode Island (S02E13, 30 May 2000). Later entries include Road to Europe, Road to Rupert, Road to Germany, Road to the Multiverse, Road to the North Pole, Road to Vegas and Road to India.
- Star Wars specials
- Three hour-long episodes retelling the original Star Wars trilogy: Blue Harvest (S06E01, 2007), Something, Something, Something, Dark Side (S08E20, DVD 2009, broadcast 2010) and It's a Trap! (S09E18, DVD 2010, broadcast 2011). Released together as Laugh It Up, Fuzzball.
- The 100th episode
- Fox aired a 100th episode tribute special, hosted by Seth MacFarlane, before Stewie Kills Lois in November 2007. By Wikipedia's count and this site's one-entry-per-broadcast numbering, the 100th episode is Movin' Out (Brian's Song), first aired on 30 September 2007.
- The Cleveland Show
- A spin-off following Cleveland Brown that ran on Fox from 27 September 2009 to 19 May 2013, after which Cleveland returned to Family Guy. Characters introduced there, such as Donna Tubbs-Brown and Rallo Tubbs, appear in later Family Guy episodes.
- Viewer Mail episodes
- Two anthology episodes framed as answers to viewers' letters, each made of three segments with their own writers and directors: Family Guy Viewer Mail #1 (S03E21, 2002) and Family Guy Viewer Mail #2 (S10E22, 2012).
