About Ernie the Giant Chicken

Ernie the Giant Chicken is a human-sized anthropomorphic chicken voiced by Danny Smith. He works as a gag character, and his standing feud with Peter Griffin produces long, violent brawls. These fights usually break out in the middle of an unrelated scene. A flashback in "Da Boom" traces the quarrel back to an expired coupon that Ernie once handed Peter. Meg beheads him in the season 23 episode "The Chicken or the Meg". The showrunner, Alec Sulkin, confirmed that the character had been written out for good, the crew having run out of uses for him. He turns up again all the same, in a segment of the season 24 episode "Viewer DMs" and later that season in "A Few More Ways to Die in the West". Neither appearance sits inside the programme's ordinary continuity.
