The Simpsons Guy
Episode 1 of Family Guy season 13 (S13E01), the 232nd Family Guy episode overall. Written by Patrick Meighan and directed by Peter Shin. First broadcast on 28 September 2014.
Story
A misogynistic comic strip by Peter angers the women of Quahog, and the Griffins leave town. Their car is stolen and they are stranded outside Springfield, where Homer Simpson takes them in. Bart teaches Stewie to skateboard and to make prank calls, and Stewie kidnaps and tortures Nelson Muntz. Lisa turns jealous on finding that Meg has a gift for the saxophone. Peter and Homer recover the car from Hans Moleman, then fall out after Homer tries Pawtucket Patriot Ale, which proves to be a copy of Duff. Fred Flintstone hears the resulting lawsuit and finds for Duff. Bart breaks off the friendship once Stewie's revenge on his enemies comes out, and Peter and Homer fight at length before agreeing to admire one another from a distance. The Griffins return home to find the row over the comic has passed.
Production and reception
- The crossover was proposed by executive producer Richard Appel, who had spent four seasons writing for The Simpsons, and cleared with Seth MacFarlane and with the Simpsons producers Matt Groening, Al Jean and James L. Brooks. Wikipedia, The Simpsons Guy
- Dan Castellaneta, Nancy Cartwright, Julie Kavner, Hank Azaria and Yeardley Smith guest star as their Simpsons characters. Harry Shearer, the sixth main cast member, could not take part because of scheduling. Wikipedia, The Simpsons Guy
- Supervising director Peter Shin, once a layout artist on The Simpsons, adapted the Griffins to Springfield, dimming the whites of their eyes among other changes, and animated the eight-minute fight. Wikipedia, The Simpsons Guy
- The premiere drew 8.45 million viewers and a 4.5 rating with a 12 per cent share among adults aged 18 to 49. Wikipedia, The Simpsons Guy
- Notices were mixed. Mike Foss of USA Today was favourable while faulting the Family Guy staff for missing the other show's humour, and Emily VanDerWerff of Vox set out nine objections, including the car wash and fight scenes. Wikipedia, The Simpsons Guy
