Fighting Irish
Episode 17 of Family Guy season 13 (S13E17), the 248th Family Guy episode overall. Written by Jaydi Samuels and directed by Brian Iles. First broadcast on 3 May 2015.
Story
Quagmire holds a party to mark his thousandth sexual conquest. Peter, drunk, keeps boasting that he could beat a cartoon version of the actor Liam Neeson in a fight, and Quagmire, Joe and Cleveland tire of hearing it and arrange for him to prove it. Neeson is filming in Waterbury, Connecticut, and Peter's attempts to reach him end in arrest after he tells security guards what he came for. Neeson bails him out and, instead of fighting him, puts him to work on errands. Peter tells his friends he won, then has to admit the lie in front of them. He finally refuses one last errand, Neeson beats him easily, and his friends are impressed that he went through with it. Stewie, meanwhile, grows jealous of the attention Lois gives another child at his preschool.
Production and reception
- The script was by Jaydi Samuels, who had joined Family Guy in 2008 as a production assistant. Wikipedia, Fighting Irish (Family Guy)
- Neeson agreed to deliver any line the writers gave him bar one, a boast about his age, which he altered on the grounds that he had been 55 when he made Taken. Wikipedia, Fighting Irish (Family Guy)
- Neeson had been parodied on the show before, played by John Viener in a joke about his American accent, and had appeared as himself in an earlier season. Wikipedia, Fighting Irish (Family Guy)
- The first broadcast drew 3.71 million viewers, the lowest figure in its timeslot but the highest of any Fox programme that night. Wikipedia, Fighting Irish (Family Guy)
- Jesse Schedeen of IGN judged it a middling instalment weighed down by too many cutaways and pop culture references, though he thought Neeson's willingness to mock his own fame lifted it. Wikipedia, Fighting Irish (Family Guy)
