A Fistful of Meg

Episode 4 of Family Guy season 12 (S12E04), the 214th Family Guy episode overall. Written by Dominic Bianchi and Joe Vaux and directed by Joe Vaux. First broadcast on 10 November 2013.

Story

Meg spills her lunch over Mike Pulaski, a new pupil, who challenges her to a fight after school. Her friends desert her, and Quagmire, who tells her that a girl bullied and abused him as a teenager and that he never stood up to her, trains Meg instead. She takes a beating in the fight before disgusting Mike into defeat, and a narration reveals that she dies a year later of septic shock. Meanwhile Peter takes to undressing in front of Brian, who is repelled by it, and keeps up the harassment until Brian follows Stewie's advice and shaves off all his fur. The sight horrifies Peter, who agrees to stay dressed, and Stewie lends Brian clothes for the three months the fur takes to grow back.

Production and reception

  • The story was built as a reference to the 1987 teen film Three O'Clock High. Wikipedia, A Fistful of Meg
  • Nielsen figures gave it a 2.0 rating and an audience of 4.18 million, second in Fox's animation block that evening behind The Simpsons on 4.20 million. Wikipedia, A Fistful of Meg
  • Eric Thurm of The A.V. Club graded it D and called the running joke at Meg's expense distasteful, though he wrote well of the Peter and Brian story. Wikipedia, A Fistful of Meg
