Season 10 · Episode 21 · First aired 13 May 2012
Tea Peter
Episode 21 of Family Guy season 10 (S10E21), the 186th Family Guy episode overall. Written by Patrick Meighan and directed by Pete Michels. First broadcast on 13 May 2012.
Story
Peter takes an open-for-business sign from the reopened Goldman's Pharmacy and fixes it to his own front door. Passers-by treat the house as a shop, so Peter starts trading, and Joe closes him down for having no licence. Beaten at City Hall, Peter and Quagmire join the Tea Party movement, over Brian's objection that big business stands behind it. At a rally Peter finds his father-in-law Carter posing as an ordinary working man, and Carter recruits him to campaign against government itself. Mayor West shuts Quahog's government down and the town enjoys its lawlessness, until Carter pollutes freely, basic services fail and residents riot. Carter refuses to help, so Peter talks the town into rebuilding government as though the idea were new, then reads what people say about him online.
Production and reception
- The first broadcast drew 4.94 million viewers on Nielsen figures and a 2.4/6 rating and share among adults aged 18 to 49, against Celebrity Apprentice on NBC and the last instalment of Desperate Housewives on ABC. Wikipedia, Tea Peter
- Viewing figures fell from those of the preceding episode, "Leggo My Meg-O". Wikipedia, Tea Peter
- Kevin McFarland of The A.V. Club graded the episode C+, writing that the thin plot did little for him while the cutaways made him laugh, and that he did not accept the final turn but valued the attempt at satire. Wikipedia, Tea Peter
- Carter Dotson of TV Fanatic rated it 2.7 out of 5, arguing that a send-up of the Tea Party movement was inevitable given the programme's politics but that the writers had left out the jokes. Wikipedia, Tea Peter
- Guest voices included Ari Graynor, Alexa Ray Joel, Christine Lakin, Tara Strong, Nicole Sullivan, Ralph Garman, Wendee Lee, Chris Cox, Fred Tatasciore, Kirker Butler and Julius Sharpe. Wikipedia, Tea Peter
