Lois Comes Out of Her Shell

Episode 6 of Family Guy season 11 (S11E06), the 194th Family Guy episode overall. Written by Danny Smith and directed by Joe Vaux. First broadcast on 25 November 2012.

Story

Lois dreads her 43rd birthday, and a poem Peter reads at the surprise party Brian suggests tips her into a midlife crisis. She has a makeover, grows her hair, dresses far younger and takes up with a group of teenage girls, which wears Peter out. Brian tells Peter that the poem is the cause. Lois gets into a Justin Bieber concert meaning to seduce him, Peter interrupts and beats Bieber up, then apologises and says he loves her as she is, before having to take the stage himself. In a second strand Stewie brings a turtle home from a park pond and names him Sheldon, but the turtle tries to kill him, and Mario eventually jumps on Sheldon and finishes him off.

Production and reception

  • It took a 2.9 rating and 5.77 million viewers, second on the Fox animation line-up that night behind The Simpsons on 7.46 million. Wikipedia, Lois Comes Out of Her Shell
  • Kevin McFarland of The A.V. Club graded it B-, finding the plot turns signalled well in advance and the themes ordinary for a sitcom, but the structure and joke delivery better than in recent instalments. Wikipedia, Lois Comes Out of Her Shell
  • Carter Dotson of TV Fanatic rated it 3.5 out of 5, praising how the plot held together and the Conway Bieber gag, while doubting how sincere the sentiment at its centre really was. Wikipedia, Lois Comes Out of Her Shell
