Roads to Vegas

Episode 21 of Family Guy season 11 (S11E21), the 209th Family Guy episode overall. Written by Steve Callaghan and directed by Greg Colton. First broadcast on 19 May 2013.

Story

Brian wins tickets to a Celine Dion show in Las Vegas at a Quahog Gay Pride raffle, and Stewie talks him into using his new teleporter instead of flying. The machine copies them, so one pair travels by plane while an identical pair arrives at once. The duplicates take a jackpot at the Bellagio and spend freely, while the originals end up in a cheap hotel, lose everything, borrow from a loan shark and lose that too. Their backpacks are swapped by accident. When the loan shark's enforcer corners the duplicates, that Brian tells him to shoot Stewie. The original pair agree to jump from a hotel balcony, but Stewie stops short and Brian falls to his death, after which Stewie finds the winnings in the swapped bag. The two survivors meet at the bus terminal and lie to each other about how their friends died.

Production and reception

  • A Fox press release described the pair using a time machine to reach a Bette Midler concert, which does not match the broadcast episode. Wikipedia, Roads to Vegas
  • Callaghan told The Hollywood Reporter that the scene in which Brian and Stewie consider killing themselves together was the hardest thing he had to write in 2012. Wikipedia, Roads to Vegas
  • Guest performances came from Alexandra Breckenridge, Ralph Garman, Joe Lomonaco and Emily Osment, while the writers Danny Smith, John Viener, Gary Janetti and Alec Sulkin took small parts. Wikipedia, Roads to Vegas
  • Nielsen figures put the audience at 5.28 million with a 2.6 rating among viewers aged 18 to 49. Kevin McFarland of The A.V. Club graded it B plus and Carter Dotson of TV Fanatic rated it 4.4. Wikipedia, Roads to Vegas
