To Love and Die in Dixie

Episode 12 of Family Guy season 3 (S03E12), the 40th Family Guy episode overall. Written by Steve Callaghan and directed by Dan Povenmire. First broadcast on 15 November 2001.

Story

Chris takes a paper round. A thief robs a shop on his route and steals his bike. Chris identifies the man at the police station, where Peter unwittingly hands over a photo of him and other personal details. The thief escapes and swears revenge, so the family enters witness protection in Bumblescum in the Deep South. Peter becomes sheriff, Stewie joins a jug band and Chris befriends a local child called Sam. When Peter disrupts a Civil War re-enactment by insisting the North won, Sam's father bans the friendship. Sam kisses Chris, who takes Sam for a boy until learning otherwise. FBI agents in Quahog let slip the family's location; the thief tracks them down and Sam's father shoots him dead. At home, 113 answerphone messages await from Herbert, an elderly customer on Chris's round.

Production and reception
