Peterotica
Episode 24 of Family Guy season 4 (S04E24), the 74th Family Guy episode overall. Written by Patrick Meighan and directed by Kurt Dumas. First broadcast on 23 April 2006.
Story
At a sex shop with Quagmire, Joe and Cleveland, Peter buys an erotic novel and finds it poor. He sends the author a sample of how he would do it, and his friends urge him to write his own. His novels sell well and become audiobooks read by Betty White, published by Carter Pewterschmidt for $5 in photocopies. A driver aroused by one recording crashes into the Kool-Aid Man's house and sues Carter into ruin. Carter arrives to shoot Peter, but Lois talks him down and the Griffins take him in. Barbara divorces him and marries Ted Turner. Peter tries to teach Carter ordinary life and money-making, including a failed train robbery. Barbara returns rich, having divorced Turner for half his assets, and Carter abandons Peter. Lois then admits she refused $10 million from her parents ten years earlier. Meanwhile Stewie trains in gymnastics for the Olympics.
Production and reception
- Patrick Meighan wrote the episode and Kurt Dumas directed; an earlier title referring to King Arthur was rejected by broadcasting standards. Wikipedia, Peterotica
- Peter's novels parody real books, including Angela's Ashes, The Catcher in the Rye, Brave New World and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince; one cover was cut from broadcast. Wikipedia, Peterotica
- A planned subplot in which Stewie built a machine to make Chris intelligent was scrapped as not funny enough. Wikipedia, Peterotica
- The thinking grenade gag was written for "PTV" but moved here because the Drunken Clam had no windows for Peter to throw grenades through. Wikipedia, Peterotica
- Carol Burnett sued over an unauthorised use of her Charwoman character and the case was dismissed; Mike Drucker of IGN singled out the episode and "PTV" for praise. Wikipedia, Peterotica
